In September 2013, Elizabeth Owen from Bwlch-Y-Ffridd contacted us for a quote for both a Biomass Heating system and a 4kW Solar PV system. With the temptation of the RHI and FIT payments, and also a wish to do her part for the environment by reducing her carbon footprint, she was eager to go ahead, and commissioned Llani Solar and Biomass to fit an MCZ Ego Hydro Wood Pellet Boiler into her home.
The new boiler was to be placed into an existing fireplace in the kitchen, with the flue placed inside the chimney. We were able to integrate Elizabeth’s new green-energy boiler into her current heating system with little fuss or trouble. The only reorganisation of the current system that was required was the removal of the electric heater that had previously supplied heat to the house, and the movement of a radiator from the kitchen to a bedroom, since the Ego Hydro boiler acts as a log burner as well as a heating system, and therefore negates the need for a radiator in the same room at itself.
It is estimated that Elizabeth will use 5.63 tonnes of wood annually, and with the boiler running at an efficiency of 92%, will produce 19902 kWh of heat a year. Reports state that she is exceptionally pleased with the system despite some small problems, which were immediately reported and repaired.
Elizabeth does not currently receive the RHI funding, since her installation was completed and her RHPP applied for before the 20th of May 2013. However as of October 2014, she will eligible to apply for and receive the RHI payments.
